Duane Bullock Receives NAEP Volunteer of the Year Award
Duane M. Bullock, manager of Supplier Diversity and Environmentally Responsible Purchasing in Procurement Services, received the 2016 Volunteer of the Year Award at the National Association of Educational Procurement (NAEP) Annual Meeting in Reno, Nevada. He was presented with the award at a luncheon on March 29.
The Volunteer of the Year Award acknowledges and recognizes the voluntary achievements of a member who has contributed time and resources to benefit NAEP, while also inspiring others to engage in volunteer activities. Award winners exhibit "extraordinary voluntary service and commitment to the mission of NAEP [and] a record of service evidenced by a meaningful commitment of effort and time," according to the NAEP website.
"Duane always asks what he can do to help," says NAEP member Melanie Freeman, who nominated Bullock on behalf of the organization. "He not only volunteers his time and resources, he is a leader and motivator."
The nomination cited Bullock's volunteer service on the Supplier Diversity Institute (SDI) and Annual Meeting Program committees for several years, as well as his support for keynote speakers. Recently, Bullock also organized a webinar for supplier diversity professionals. "His presentations continue to be well-received and his experience and thorough knowledge demonstrate his position as a true subject-matter expert," says Freeman.
Bullock appreciates the help and resources he has received from both NAEP and Penn State. "It is quite an honor to work with such great colleagues across the country, and it has always been my pleasure to assist the wonderful NAEP staff wherever I could," he says. "I'm very grateful to Joyce Haney, my former Procurement Services director, who is now retired from Penn State. Joyce afforded me many opportunities to be involved with NAEP in volunteering at the national level, and I appreciate the Penn State resources that made that possible."
"We congratulate Duane on receiving this national award," says Dean J. McCracken, assistant director of Purchasing Services. "It is certainly a great honor for him to be recognized at the national level. The award from NAEP appropriately reflects Duane's dedication and time that he has invested to prepare for the conferences where he has volunteered his time and talents."
With a membership of more than 1,000 colleges and universities, NAEP is dedicated to serving higher education purchasing officers in the U.S. and Canada. NAEP provides professional development and networking opportunities regionally and nationally.
